Chile's Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela, projects a favorable fruit and vegetable season for the summer, due to good weather conditions during the winter. He pointed out that the cold hours required for fruit were exceptional and that the snow accumulated in the mountain range ensures an excellent supply of water for irrigation. However, he warned that frosts could occur in September and October, which would partially affect production.
It should be noted that summer in Chile occurs during the months of December, January and February, as the country is located in the southern hemisphere, where the seasons are opposite to those of the northern hemisphere.
Minister Valenzuela described the balance of the Fiestas Patrias as positive, highlighting the good performance of the agricultural industry and the supply of products by farmers. He pointed out that, after the celebration, it is normal for the volume of sales to decrease, but that a normalization of trade is expected soon.
He also highlighted the fall in the prices of some products such as cabbage and artichoke, due to higher production, as well as the stability in the prices of fruits such as lemons, oranges, pears and apples.
