Grapefruit is gaining renewed interest, particularly among health-conscious shoppers who appreciate its vitamin C, vitamin A, and fiber content.

Sunkist is rolling out 3lb and 5lb (1.36 kg and 2.27 kg) Grapefruit Combo Bags nationwide as part of its summer citrus campaign, spotlighting the refreshing flavor of California-grown grapefruit. These new combo bags feature a mix of Star Ruby and Marsh Ruby varieties and are designed to offer convenience and nutrition for seasonal moments like brunches and snacks on the go.

According to Cassie Howard, Senior Director of Category Management and Marketing at Sunkist, citrus may shine in winter, but grapefruit remains a favorite for summer thanks to its bold taste and health appeal. She emphasized that the combo bags make fresh citrus more accessible for families looking for value and variety.

A recent Sunkist-commissioned study revealed that over 80% of fruit consumers eat citrus weekly — a figure that’s growing year over year. Grapefruit is gaining renewed interest, particularly among health-conscious shoppers who appreciate its vitamin C, vitamin A, and fiber content.

Howard noted that consumers find grapefruit ideal as a morning boost or snack, and over half said they’d like to use it more in meals, especially dinner. Sunkist is supporting this shift with seasonal recipes like Grapefruit Breakfast Boats, Coconut Pie Cups, and Grapefruit Ceviche.

To encourage retail engagement, Sunkist is also launching a Grapefruit Display Contest running from May 1 to August 1. Alongside grapefruit, the brand's summer citrus lineup includes sweet Valencia oranges and lemons in both conventional and organic varieties.
