In Greece, the Pieria region is the main kiwifruit-growing area, and did not suffer any production losses after the Daniel storm that affected certain districts of the country.
For the 2023 season, the Incofruit Hellas exporters' association had estimated that Greek kiwifruit production could reach 311,000 tons. This represents a variation of -3% compared with 2022.
According to Greek professionals, this drop in production is due to a reduction in average yields per hectare following the effects of the previous particularly mild winter.
This year's kiwifruit are of good quality and size. Commercial demand has increased, mainly due to the decline in Italian production, and producer prices are fluctuating at good levels.
