Green light for Colombian pineapples in Brazil

Colombian suppliers aim to position themselves with premium-quality fruit supported by traceability and consistent supply.
Colombia has secured access for its fresh pineapple in Brazil, marking the end of a long technical approval process and opening new commercial opportunities for growers in Valle del Cauca and Urabá.
The agreement was confirmed following a meeting between Paula Cepeda, general manager of the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA), and Luís Rua, secretary of Trade and International Relations at Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA). The decision follows risk analysis, data exchange, field inspections, and alignment of phytosanitary protocols that began in 2018.
Colombia considers the authorization a “historic milestone.” The ICA outlined next steps, including updating certifications, strengthening pest monitoring and post-harvest controls, and coordinating upcoming technical missions to ensure compliance with Brazilian standards.
Although Brazil is itself a major pineapple producer, the country maintains a niche import market that is expected to grow gradually in value over the coming years. Colombian suppliers aim to position themselves with premium-quality fruit supported by traceability and consistent supply.
