Despite stable volumes, the sharp fall in prices weighed on export earnings, leaving Peru’s onion sector more exposed to price pressure even as demand stayed firm across key markets.
Peru shipped 315,847,665 kilos of fresh onions in 2025, earning USD 122.1 million, according to Agrodata Peru. Volumes were 1% higher than in 2024, but export value fell by 15% as the average price dropped to USD 0.39 per kilo, down from USD 0.46 a year earlier.
Shipments were strongest from August to November, with September recording the highest volume at 44.4 million kilos, while October brought the highest monthly revenue at USD 19.8 million. December exports reached 34.8 million kilos worth USD 14.6 million, showing a solid year-end finish.
The United States remained Peru’s main destination, taking 49% of all onion exports with purchases valued at USD 59.9 million. Spain followed with 23% (USD 27.5 million), and Colombia ranked third with 18% (USD 22.4 million). Smaller volumes went to Costa Rica, Bolivia, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, while Europe outside Spain accounted for only minor shares.
