Growers count cost of early frosts
Australia
Thursday 03 April 2008
Two mornings of unseasonably early frosts have damaged the Granite Belt’s vegetable crops.
An autumn chill resulted in record low temperatures at places including Brisbane, Stanthorpe and Charleville on 30th & 31st March, the like of which some say have not been seen in 71 years.
Vegetable crops were already showing signs of damage on 30th and the frost on 31st only intensified the damage, which will put an early end to the season for a lot of vegetable growers.
