The agreement passed by Parliament will worsen the crisis in the producing regions of Spain, leading to lower prices and job losses.
The European Parliament voted in favour of ratifying the Agreement between the EU and Morocco with 369 votes in favour, 225 against and 31 abstentions concerning the agreement to liberalise agricultural trade.
For FEPEX, the European Parliament did not take into account the serious consequences that the current agreement will lead to for the production areas in Spain. In the tomato industry, during the past year, the current agreement has
led to the loss of 12,500 jobs in Andalucía, Canarias, Valencia and Murcia with unemployment rates above 30%.
FEPEX regrets that this situation will be extended to other fruits and vegetables and other regions, since the new agreement provides for the liberalisation of trade in virtually all fruits and vegetables from Morocco.
