The winter season for vegetables in the province of Seville (Spain) begins marked by high production costs and drought.
The surface of the artichoke, which was on the rise due to the growing demand, has been reduced from 60 to 14 hectares, according to data from the Coordinator of Farmers and Ranchers (COAG).
In addition, this same scenario forces Sevillian producers to find land with a greater supply of water in other regions.

Due to the increase in production costs, this year the artichokes may reach other markets and have other prices, as well as being out of supply. In this way, it is projected that 20% of the production of fresh artichokes and 80% of the industrial production will go to Europe. The main importing countries for Spanish artichokes are France, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Germany.
