The potato area reaches 609,000 hectares in the NEPG countries.
Based on a preliminary estimate of the North-Western European Potato Growers (NEPG), the area of the 5 potato-producing countries has increased to 609 000 hectares of potatoes.
It's the highest surface in a long time. This figure is provisional but shows an overall growth of 2.4% compared to last year and 8.4% compared to the five-year average. All countries of the potato-growing continent are seeing their surfaces grow, with France and Belgium leading the way.
At the last NEPG meeting, members noted that the increase in plantings was in line with growing demand for processing and export. The NEPG emphasizes that it is always the yield, not the area, that will determine the final harvest.
