Poor persimmon production
Spain
Friday 22 November 2002
Last summer's heavy rains affected the persimmon production in the Castellon region, Spain. Usual production is 2 500 tons, but this year, it could fall down to 600 tons, that is to say 40% less. If bad weather conditions are to blame, we have to add the fruit fly proliferation, plague that producers can't achieve to eradicate despite their efforts. Production that remains on 350 hectares, offers good grade and quality fruit and should then be profitable.
