Logistical problems are numerous and disrupt the supply of fruit and vegetables (Photo: m.economictimes.com).
Like many other countries, India has established containment for 3 weeks. The factories and offices are closed, only essential stores (food, pharmacy) can open. Transport is stopped, disrupting the supply chains for fresh produce.
Despite the government's qualification as an "essential service", wholesalers based in New Delhi are alarmed by the situation and point out the numerous logistical problems.
Tens of thousands of trucks are stranded across the country, in garages, inside cities, on highways. And the cargoes are lost according to AIMTC (All India Motor Transport Congress) and AITWA (All India Truck Welfare Association).
This transport problem and the shortage of labor noted in various sectors (handling, cleaning ...) make professionals fear that without creating a new supply chain, thousands of tonnes of fruit and vegetables will be lost .
