Italy has increased production of kiwi by 12% and is undoubtedly the largest European producer.
Italy produces about 70% of kiwifruit in the northern hemisphere.
A recent report to the U.S. Department of Agriculture indicates that Italy produces about 70% of kiwis in the northern hemisphere and is the first European producer of kiwifruit with 448,232 tonnes produced in 2011/2012, an increase of 12% compared to 2010/2011
.
Approximately 75% of production is exported. The business calendar is November to May The main producing regions are Latium (7,200 ha) Piedmont (4,950 ha) Emilia Romagna (3,250 ha) and Veneto (3,200 ha).
