The production of melon and watermelon in Castilla y La Mancha (Spain) this season will be lower than in 2021, warn Agro-food Cooperatives of Castilla-La Mancha.
The negative projection is due to the -10% reduction in the sown area and unfavorable weather conditions that have occurred in the first half of the year.
The planted area went from 8,829 hectares in 2021 to 7,990 this year, according to data presented by producers in the Community Agrarian Policy (PAC) and provided by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Despite the lower volumes expected, producers assure that the quality of the fruits that are already being harvested in the region is excellent.
