Strawberries with cream are one of the traditional elements of the Wimbledon tennis tournament which is currently taking place. Despite inflation and rising production costs, the organizers have kept the price of the punnet of strawberries in cream at the same price as in previous editions.
The punnet of strawberries with cream containing about 10 fruits is sold for 2.50 GBP (3.02 USD). Either at the same price as since the 2010 edition of the tournament. Despite the increase in input prices, the organizers have chosen not to pass on these increases to keep strawberries at an affordable price.
The strawberries served at Wimbledon come from British farms, mostly located within a radius of 40 miles (64.3 km). Every day of the tournament, the strawberries are picked from 5 a.m. and then transported to Wimbledon to allow consumption the same day of picking.
On average at Wimbledon, 8,615 punnets of strawberries are consumed per day, ie 28,000 kg consumed throughout the tournament and served with more than 7,000 liters of fresh cream.
While the strawberry punnet is offered at an affordable price, the other food and drink options are significantly more expensive: 2 glasses of Pimm's, the typical drink consumed at Wimbledon, cost 21 GBP (25.38 USD).
