Consumption of potatoes could fall by 40%
FJ
Changes in eating habits will lead to a fall of consumption of potatoes.
Irish eat increasingly less potatoes. Bord Bia, the supervisory body of food, warns that consumption may fall by 162,000 tons per year, the current level less than 100 000 tons by 2023.
Nearly 40% less, if the current trend continues. The consumption of potatoes falls down, following changes in eating habits observed. Consumers prefer other carbohydrates such as rice, couscous or sweet potatoes. Studies have even shown that potatoes were now perceived as past fashion products, not really healthy, and difficult to cook.
