Decline in Chilean blueberry exports
FJ
Less than last year and less than expected in early season, the 2013-14 campaign will not be remembered having a net decrease in the volume of exports.
ASOEX the Exporters Association of Chile, published its final report on the 2013-14 season for blueberry (Arándanos). Exports totaled 74,033 tons, or -15% compared to the previous season and -27% from the estimated amount at the beginning of the season.
Several factors came to combine their effects: firstly, the frost in September that affected the second harvest after the sanitary restrictions imposed by the United States with the discovery of "Lobesia botrana" on some lots, then, numerous precipitation and high summer temperatures, and finally, port strikes that disrupted shipments.
