Love Food, Hate Waste
United Kingdom
Friday 29 February 2008
Fresh fruit and vegetables are at the top of the list of most wasted food categories in the UK. Each UK household throws away 540.00 EUR a year in wasted food, making up to 6.7m tons or 15mt of CO2 and equivalent to one third of food brought home for consumption. Working professionals in the 16-34 age group and young families are the prime offenders. A promotion campaign to reduce food waste by 100,000t by 31 March is underway, conducted by the Waste & Resources Action Program’s (WRAP) Love Food Hate Waste (LFHW) initiative.
