Citrus exports fall
Morocco

Citrus exports from Morocco are down with oranges only 55% of the export target.
Fresh citrus exports for the period October 2011 to May 2012 totaled 451,181 tons, down 15% over the same period 2010/11. Orange exports are very low and only reached 55% of the export target set by the government.
This decline is due to climatic conditions. Cold
weather and drought earlier this year had an impact on the quality and size of citrus fruits, especially oranges.
The 2012/13 season for citrus was affected by severe heat waves in early May and citrus growers have requested emergency assistance from the government.
