The European Union is the largest customer of Peru, receiving 44% of Peruvian exports, far ahead of the United States (26%).
According to preliminary data released by Sunat, the National Tax Administration, the value of Peruvian agricultural exports reached a record.
For Sunat (Superintendencia Nacional de Administración Tributaria) the value of agricultural exports increased 23% in 2011 compared to 2010 and reached 4,180 million.
The flagship products of Peruvian exports were: coffee (+57%), avocado (94%), cocoa (31%), grapes (21
%) and bananas (21%). In volume, avocado increased by 37% reaching 81,464 tons shipped and grapes 17% up to 87, 390 tons. Bananas saw a 19% increase to 93,433 tons.
The main destination is the European Union which receives 44% of total exports. Germany, Spain and the Netherlands receive 80% of exports and distributes the rest in Europe. The U.S. market accounts for 26% of total exports.
