Headquartered in Belgium, TOMRA Food designs and manufactures sensor-based sorting machines and integrated post-harvest solutions for the food industry, using advanced technologies in grading, sorting, peeling and analytics. Over 8,000 units are installed at food growers, packers and processors around the world for fruits, nuts, vegetables, potatoes, grains, seeds and protein. Ashley Hunter, Senior Vice President and Head of Food Sorting at TOMRA Food, shared the company’s plans.
Ashley Hunter remarks that TOMRA Food will continue its global expansion with more people around the world in sales, service and engineering, supporting their local customers.
Mr. Hunter explains that TOMRA Food not only responds to customers’ needs but also is continuously looking for new technologies that they believe will be necessary in the future. “We continue to invest a significant figure in technology that can tell us more about each piece of fruit or each piece of vegetable. We want to make sure that we can make the right decisions about every piece that comes out off the ground or off the tree or land in order to help our customers optimize the yield, the value and their processes”.
TOMRA Food also plans to benefit from the enormous amounts of data that TOMRA technology captures from “field to fork”. “The use of this “big data” - and extracting value out of it for the benefit of our customers - is an area where we are investing in a significant way as it we believe this will be an area of significant growth and value”, explains Ashley Hunter.
“If you look at TOMRA, we are the only company in the world that has the complete range of sorters to sort everything from sunflower seeds, edible seeds, all the way up to sorting potatoes, sweet potatoes and large products”, - indicates Ashley. “No other company in the world has the complete range of sorting and grading platforms and the range of technologies that we have. This gives us the unique position to select the right platform and the right technologies for every customer application. And now with the addition of Compac and BBC Technologies we cover the fresh and the processing industries in a uniquely comprehensive manner”, - ends Mr. Hunter.
