Georgia has ambitions to become the New Zealand of the northern hemisphere for kiwi fruit and begin to export to Europe next year.
Georgia could become the New Zealand of the northern hemisphere and provide kiwi fruit to European markets.
Introduced recently, kiwi fruit has potential in regions with a subtropical climate, well adapted to the fruit. Georgia is also closer than New Zealand's to European markets.
Production next year is estimated at 600,000 kg, half of which will be available for export. Georgian professionals are already in talks to export it to the UK.. Areas planted are still low but some producers want to multiply this by 10 by 2016.
