Labourers Quit Grape Plantations in Andhra Pradesh state
India

Lack of manpower and costs of labour are the reason of Andhra Pradesh grape growers discontent when farm labourers are shifting towards construction industry. Boom of this industry influence likewise the total acreage of grape plantations that come down from 8,000 acre to 6,000 acre in the state. Presently growing of grapes is not seen as a lucrative business in domestic market. Andhra Pradesh state produces over 60,000 tons and exports about 100 containers of grapes, predominantly to the UK market. This apart, not all labourers can pluck the juicy berries since often farmers need experienced workers to pluck grapes as they are very delicate in nature.
