Spanish fruit and vegetable exports are performing well in the European market with positive growth rates in the major consuming countries. Shipments outside the EU remain weak.
According to data from the customs department, processed by FEPEX, Spanish exports of fresh fruit and vegetables reached EUR 8.673 million until July this year, of which EUR 8.035 million came from EU countries, or 93% of the total and 4% more than the same period in 2018.
In these EU countries, Germany imported EUR 2.301 million, 5% more than in the same period last year; the Netherlands, with a growth of 5%, imported EUR 719 million. Exports to France and the United Kingdom, the 2nd and 3rd largest markets for Spanish fruit and vegetables, stabilized in value, with EUR 1.485 million for France and EUR 1.157 million for the United Kingdom.
Non-EU exports reached EUR 638 million, 21% more than last year for the same period. Switzerland imported EUR 183 million (+ 16%) for EUR 65 million (-6%). Outside the European continent, the main destination countries are Brazil with EUR 54 million (+ 76%), China with EUR 45 million (+ 58%) and Canada with EUR 44.7 million (+ 8%).
