China receives 87% of Chilean cherry exports

China is by far the largest market for Chilean cherries with 87% of total exports. Exports of Chilean cherries are expected to increase further next season.
According to a recent USDA GAIN Report, exports of Chile's cherries reached 179,973 tonnes for the 2018/19 season. Exports to China totaled 157,710 tons, 87% of the total volume and 1% more than in the previous season.
Behind China, the United States is the second largest destination for Chilean cherries with 2.7% of the total volume of exports.
In Chile in the last 5 years the area planted with cherries has steadily increased at a rate of 10% reaching 37 000 hectares for the 2019/20 campaign. Cherry exports are expected to increase further to 207,000 tonnes as new orchards become productive.
