Exports of passion fruit still declining but a rebound is expected for 2021

For the 3rd consecutive year the value of Peruvian exports of passion fruit is declining but the sector is confident and plans recovery for 2021.

 

 

According to ADEX (Asociación de Exportadores) exports of passion fruit will end 2019 with figures down for the 3rd year in a row. In 2016 exports of passion fruit (fresh fruit, juice, frozen pulp) totaled 51 million USD, then 44.4 million USD in 2017 and 43.6 million USD in 2018. For 2019 the total would reach 38 million USD only.

 

 

 

This continuous decline is explained by a lower quality of the fruits. The seeds used by the small producers would yield fruits with less Brix degree and especially with a very low yield.

 

 

 

Industry professionals have established a work program to improve seed quality, productivity per hectare and profitability. This will allow the sector to recover quickly.
