Organic production is carried out in 24 departments of Peru, which in recent years have shown a significant increase in the planted area.
This month, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), through the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa), approved the creation of the National Seal of organic production, as a distinctive element for trade, control and promotion of national organic products in the domestic and international market, according to a local newspaper. The seal will take effect in six months.
The purpose of this project is to ensure that certified organic products meet the standards of Peruvian organic production, allowing the identification of these foods, which will help control, traceability, control and promotion of organic products in the country.
Its implementation does not generate additional costs to organic certification, since its official design, measures and approved formats are available to certification entities, organic operators and commercial economic agents. It should be noted that said seal will not replace the organic certification granted by a certification entity.
The Seal must be found on the label or label of certified organic foods before they are marketed. In addition, it must be included in the organic food certificate. The certification entities authorized by Senasa will be responsible for the use and administration of the Seal.
