The production down 5% on last year

The potato production in Great Britain this season was 5% down on last year, provisional figures from the British Potato Council (BPC) have revealed. The 2006 crop is estimated at 5.528 million tonnes. The overall planted area was 1% higher than 2005, but average yields were 6% lower.
