Abrafrutas wants to develop Brazilian exports

Brazil is the third largest producer of fruits in the world behind China and India and the country wants to increase its exports.
A new entity has been launched: Abrafrutas (Associação Brasileira dos Produtores Exportadores de Frutas e Derivados). Created at the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Agency for Food Safety, Abrafrutas has several missions. Strengthen domestic production, improve productivity, consolidate existing foreign markets and develop new ones.
The presidency of Abrafrutas was entrusted to Luís Roberto Barcelos, leader of Agricola Famosa, the largest fruit exporter in Brazil.
Brazil exported 693,000 tons of products per year for revenue of 619 million U.S$. Currently, exports are destined for the European Union for 76% of the total. Melons and apples are the main products for export, before the grapes, mangoes, lemons, papayas, avocados.
