Professionals in the banana sector in Costa Rica gathered for the IV Congreso Internacional.
The IV Congreso Internacional del Banano opened in Costa Rica bringing together industry professionals.
The Congress is attended by 600 participants from around the world with experts from the sector meeting to discuss current industry challenges and seeking new options to increase quality and productivity.
The Congress was inaugurated by the President of Costa
Rica, Laura Chinchilla, who emphasised the economic and social importance of bananas in the country. The industry generates 40,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs, or nearly 7% of the workforce. Costa Rica is the second largest exporter in the world.
