The increase in irrigated area has allowed the growth of agricultural production.
According to figures published by the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture, agricultural production has increased significantly.
Algerian agricultural production grew in volume by 10.6% in 2011, against 8.5% in 2010. In value terms, the growth rate of agricultural production should be between 8.5 and 9% compared to 6% in 2010. According to the Ministry, 1,630
billion dinars (22 billion) in 2011, against 1,300 billion dinars a year earlier.
The growth of agricultural production is driven primarily by market garden produce by increasing irrigated areas. These surfaces were 1, 18 million hectares (ha) in 2011.
