Friday 06 June 2008
The purchase of fruit and vegetables in British supermarkets cost some 16% more compared to January 2008. This fact emerges from a survey carried out by Verdict Research, well-known company dealing with market studies specialized in consumer products, highlighting that the average price of a sample of 100 food products in British supermarkets has increased by 5.8% in May compared to the beginning of the year.
In general, branded products registered higher increases in retail chains compared to prices applied by independent retailers. Low cost products, on the contrary, suffered from no relevant price change.
Leader supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury’s admitted that their prices have grown since the beginning of the year by 2-3% average.
