USDA, the US Department of Agriculture released that its latest estimates are even lower than the initial figures (our info from 10.13.2015 ) .
USDA forecasts for the 2015/16 season, a harvest of oranges now totaling 69 million boxes , down by 7% compared with its initial estimates , and by 28 % from the 2014/15 output ( 96.8 million boxes ) .
The " citrus greening " bacterial disease wreaks havoc in Florida and reduced production by over 50 % in a decade. The highlight of the production of oranges in Florida was achieved in the 1997-98 season with 244 million boxes.
