Wednesday 17 October 2007
The 2007 edition of Agrilevante, the historical exhibition organized since 1970 by Fiera del Levante of Bari (South Italy), will be inaugurated on Thursday, 18 of October. This year the show will develop some important new features and innovations that aim at making of Agrilevante the most important specialized event of the Mediterranean basin. From this year the event will be autonomous from the general September sample fair of which it formed part, becoming a biennial more specialized exhibition focusing on international topics, more specifically Mediterranean and Eastern European.
The typical production chains of the Mediterranean will actually have reserved areas: olive-olive oil, grape-wine vineyards, energy-non food crops, fruit and vegetables, grains.
However, Agrilevante will not only deal with agriculture: “It will be a relevant event at national and international level making the point of the sector’s problematical issues with an expansion to fishery and water culture”, declared Italian Agriculture minister Paolo De Castro, who will open the exhibtion on 18 October. “The European Commissioner for Fishery Joe Borg has actually granted his presence and we will also count on the attendance of the main sector operators".
Agrilevante aims at spreading research, innovation and know-how as strategic factors to favour the transfer of southern Italian and Mediterranean agricultural systems, following to the integration and internationalization processes of the markets.
