Additional quality recognition for the Corsican Clementine

After the label " PGI" the Corsican Clementince displayed for the first time this year under the distincif French sign " Label Rouge ".
PGI ( Protected Geographical Indication) : obtained in 2007 , the European brand signs the territorial base of the Corsican Clementine . It covers 90% of production. To benefit from this valuable logo , producers follow a very strict specifications. In particular , clementines are harvested by hand with their leaves, at optimum maturity . They do not undergo any chemical treatment after harvest and are put on the shelves within less than 6 days.
Label Rouge : 1/5 of the production also features for the first time this year , the renowned French "Label Rouge ", who signs the products with exceptional taste. Only possible for clementines of the variety " Fine de Corse".
The island has 130 producers of clementines, the equivalent of 500,000 clementine an area of ??1200 hectares. The average annual production varies from 17 000 to 20 000 tonnes.
