Increased tomato trade with the EU

Cumulated EU imports of fresh tomato keep similar as 2024 and slightly above 5 years average, while exports are progressing for the first time in 10 years.
EU imports of fresh tomatoes reached 835,000 tons in 2024, in constant rise since 10 years back. They were 4% higher then 2023. Morocco is by far the main supplier with 580,000 tons in 2024 or 69% of the EU imports, followed by Turkey with 194,000 tons delivered (23%).
Second world tomato market
US remains the first import market for fresh tomato with more than 2,132,000 tons imported, mainly from Mexico. It has continuously increased about 5% annually over the past 10 years: 2,012 million tons were imported in 2023, 1,573 million tons in 2015. Germany comes second as importing country with 742,000 tons in 2024, France third with 614,000 tons, UK 394,000 tons then Pakistan 377,000 tons. Russia dropped sharply its demand for tomato, from 322,000 tons purchased in 2023 to 146,000 tons in 2024.
EU exports back up
European tomato exports slightly increased in 2024 to 375,000 tons, following 10 years of decline. Back in 2015 EU tomato exports rounded 565,000 tons.
