New discussions focus on smoother fruit exports from Brazil.
Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Pecuaria met with Abrafrutas, Brazil’s fruit producers and exporters association, to discuss measures aimed at strengthening the country’s fruit sector.
The meeting, held in Brasília, focused on key issues for producers and exporters, including the opening of new markets, phytosanitary controls, rural insurance and export logistics.
One of the main points was the need to expand the number of agricultural inspectors at ports and airports, which could help reduce delays in the movement of fresh produce.
The use of the electronic phytosanitary certificate, known as ePhyto, was also discussed. The system has become an important tool for making export procedures faster and more efficient, especially for perishable products such as fruit.
Abrafrutas highlighted the role of fruit production in job creation and regional development. The sector is particularly important in irrigated production areas, including Petrolina, which was mentioned as a national reference for fruit exports.
According to MAPA data, Brazilian exports of fruit, including nuts and chestnuts, surpassed US$1.57 billion in 2025. The discussions signal continued efforts to improve trade access, logistics and regulatory conditions for Brazilian fruit in international markets.
