Projection for apple production and export in 2007 in China and in USA

The largest impact on apples is the proliferation of Chinese imports. The amount of acreage China has planted with apples is over 10 times that of the United States. China is in the Northern Hemisphere, so its growing season is the same as in the USA, what makes them a direct competitor to American apple growers. If Chinese exporters don't take away the U.S. market, they will for sure take away the U.S. export market to Europe, Asia and the Pacific Rim. As a result, huge amounts of acreage are being uprooted in California and Washington. A lot of that acreage is going into wine grapes, which means less likelihood of apples returning to those acres. That will mean smaller crops in the future, which could mean higher prices for the long-term.
