Cameroon to double bananas exports

The Cameroon has just realized an ambitious objective by increasing its production in order to increase exports.
Cameroon exported 247,210 tons of bananas in 2011, mainly to Europe and wants to reach 500,000 tons in 2013.This objective has been set by the government to improve economic growth. An investment of 15 billion CFA francs (about USD 30 million) will be made to increase the yield.
With a peak of 313,700 tons of exports in 2003, banana from Cameroon has dominated the African ranks between 2000 and 2005 . Today, Cameroon is ranked third, behind the Ivory Coast and Ghana.
