Morocco can improve its exports to other countries in Africa
FJ
Morocco's agri-food exports to other African countries have recorded good growth (+ 15% per year) over the last ten years but still account for too little.
A study on the challenges and opportunities of Morocco's exports to African markets reveals that only 12 countries concentrate 76.2% of Moroccan food exports. Foremost among these countries include Guinea (14%) and Mauritania (13.6%), followed by Algeria (8.9%), Tunisia (8.5%) and Senegal (8.3%) then Libya (7.5%).
Morocco are exported flour and cereal, canned fruit and vegetables, frozen vegetables in brine, juice, dried fruit. But regarding the Fruits & Vegetables, fresh, from Morocco in the market is low. Thus the Moroccan citrus exports accounted for only 4% of African imports, being virtually absent in importing markets (Kenya, Sudan). For tomatoes, Morocco's market share is estimated to be only 1% of African imports.
The development potential is important. But still many constraints to be overcome such as poor infrastructure and logistics, various borders and different business statutes.
