Urban agriculture in Cuba concluded 2006 with growth in the production of vegetables, but with disparities in the provincial results and unfinished investments that had provided more fresh foods to the population and minors prices.
As it has become habitual at the end of every year, Raul Castro examined the results of that organic farming and met the best producers of the country. 19 years ago Raul decided to promote the production of organic vegetables in Cuba. Since then, little by little, the empty pieces of land around the cities were covered with green fresh vegetables.
The total harvest of fresh vegetables and condiments was at the level of 432 and 232 tons respectively in the past year. Most of vegetables was provided to dining rooms of schools, day care centers, maternal hospitals, homes, asylums for the oldmen.
