Decline of nearly 10% for banana exports from Cameroon in 2012.
Decline of nearly 23 000 tonnes for exports of Cameroonian bananas.
ASSOBACAM (Cameroon Banana Association) announced that in 2012 banana exports amounted to 226,157 tons. A decrease of 22,864 tonnes (-9.08%) compared with 249,021 tonnes shipped in 2011.
For the Association, this decrease is due to several factors: difficulties in certain agricultural plantations and impacts of climate change in progress. The banana sector is important in Cameroon, where it contributes 6% to GDP.
