In Australia the state of Victoria is an important grape-producing region; Australian exporters have exceptional sales in Japan and South Korea.
For table grapes Australia obtained access to the Japanese and South Korean markets in 2014. Since that date, the initiatives of the state government, ATGA (Australian Table Grape Association), HIAL (Horticulture Innovation Australia Ltd) and AUSTRADE supported the efforts of the professionals and made it possible to advance sales, trade missions, promotional activities, trade shows.
"The support of the State of Victoria's government has allowed the table grape industry to increase its exports from 0 to nearly AUD 100 million in Japan and Korea in 6 years, which has enabled diversification and significant growth for the industry," said Jeff Scott, executive director of the Australian Table Grape Association.
This year the growth is exceptional with an increase of 286% in April 2020 compared to April 2019 for the exports of table grapes to South Korea.
The success of table grapes in Japan and South Korea has strengthened the reputation of the state of Victoria as a source of safe, high-quality products. Also for the next 2020-21 season, Australian professionals hope to introduce cherries from South Victoria to South Korea.
