Last week, a meeting was held with Iván Marambio, President of the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (ASOEX), Miguel Canala-Echeverría, General Manager of the entity, and Niu Qingbao, ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Chile.
The purpose of the meeting was to analyze the issue of Chilean fruit exports in China, as well as the situation of COVID in China and travel of Chileans to this country.
After the meeting Marambio commented that the borders would be open for passengers who have the APEC card, but would continue to be closed for tourists.
Canala-Echeverría stressed that, in terms of volume, China is the second largest market for Chilean fruit exports, after North America. He specified that in the 2021/22 season, Chile sent 563,328 tons of fresh fruit to this Asian market, a figure that was 8% higher than the previous season. China has a 74% share of total Chilean shipments to Asia.
