Japan increased its imports of Mexican food products (fruits, vegetables and meat)of 30%.
Disasters that hit Japan leads to greater demand for imported food products.
In recent weeks, Japan has stepped up its controls of Mexican products such as meat, citrus, coffee, tomatoes, broccoli and asparagus. Orders for pork have increased by 27% and growth should reach 30% for the entire food sector.
Japan is the second destination for Mexican products after the United States.
In 2010, exports to Japan totaled 600 million U.S. dollars. This year, with the expected increase, the sector will receive 180 million U.S. dollars.
