Antitrust operation of the European Commission to competition which imposes record fine of 2.93 billion euros in the "Trucks Cartel."
The "Cartel trucks" includes the German companies Daimler and MAN, owned by Volkswagen, the Swedish Scania, DAF Dutch, Italian and Swedish Volvo Iveco holds the French brand Renault.
"These companies have breached the rules of the EU competition" has accused the Commission. They agreed for 14 years, between 1997 and 2011, on the timing and level of price increases for the introduction of new CO2 emissions reduction technologies. These 6 companies hold about 95% of the European market, 200 000 to 300 000 vehicles registered per year over the period.
This cartel has had an impact on prices of the trucks but also have direct effects on transport fares. In addition to the European fine, these companies may also have to deal with proceedings initiated by their clients.
