Russia, which has stopped buying Chinese tomatoes because of the coronavirus, could turn to Turkish tomatoes by increasing their import quota.
The RIA news agency reported that the Ministry of Agriculture has proposed to increase the import quota for Turkish tomatoes by 50,000 tonnes to 200,000 tonnes.
This import quota had been set up by Russia after a diplomatic crisis with Turkey. According to Turkish professionals, tomato exports to Russia increased by 181% in 2019. In January 2020 alone, they exported 15,110 tonnes of tomatoes to Russia.
