Chilean avocado production is estimated to increase by 57%

So far in the 2021-22 season, 397.29 tons have already been exported to Western Europe and 203.18 to South America.
The Chilean Avocado Committee estimates a production of 220.000 tons of avocado for the 2021/22 agricultural season, which means an increase of 57% compared to the volumes reached in 2020/21 (140.000 tons).
According to the union, the estimated increase could be explained by the better weather conditions and the good fruit set.
Of the total, 120.000 tons will be destined for international sale, with Western Europe being one of the main recipients, which received 75% of these supplies during the previous season.
In the 2020/21 financial year, some 74.040,52 tons were exported, of which 55.520,8 were sent to Western Europe, mainly to the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. The markets of South America and Oceania received 9,986,93 tons and 2,522,48 tons, respectively, consolidating as the main commercial areas for local production.
