Avocado exports fell 30% in the first two months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021 due to its higher price, according to the Agricultural Markets Consulting Group (GCMA).

In the first two months of 2022, Mexico exported 201,000 tons of avocado, when in the same period of 2021 the volume was 289,000 tons.

Despite the lower volume shipped, sales revenues increased by 16%, going from $517 million in the first 2 months of 2021 to $600 million in the same months of 2022.

This behavior is derived from the higher price of the fruit, which leads to a reduction in sales, but at a price that generates more income.

According to the same source, prices in the domestic market continue to rise, as the producer price grew 87.5% in the last year, while Mexican buyers paid 100% more and international buyers 70% more.
