PE | World Horti Center
The Global Alliance of Horticulture Regions (GAHR) is just born as partnership of leading horticultural regions around the world.
It was launched this Monday 8th of June at the Municipality of Westland in the Netherlands, during a seminar at the World Horti Center. The Governor of Kochi (a horticultural region in Japan) signed the first Certificate of Membership, and the brand-new website www.globalhorticulture.org was launched. All of this took place under the watchful eye of a large number of international delegations and diplomats.
GAHR officially established
The member regions will work together on innovative solutions for global food security (for example in the fields of robotics and AI), innovation and knowledge exchange. Westland is the initiator of the GAHR and the first partners include Angers (France), Aomori and Kochi (Japan), Lincoln (Canada), Venlo (the Netherlands) and Colón and Morelia (Mexico). Dozens of other regions around the world have expressed an interest in joining in the coming period.
Global food security addressed
Due to climate change, population growth and geopolitical challenges, global food security is more important than ever. Mayor of Westland Bouke Arends: “Today, Westland is putting itself on the international map with this inspiring initiative. By working together across borders, we can innovate more quickly, share knowledge and implement sustainable solutions to truly tackle that growing global demand for food together.”
Querétaro and Colón, Mexico 2027
Over the coming period, the member regions will work together to further develop the organization, including a multi-year strategy and an international program of activities. The Global Alliance’s first General Assembly is scheduled for 12 March 2027 in the Municipality of Colón in Mexico, following the GreenTech Americas event in the State of Querétaro.
Global Alliance at GreenTech
The delegations also visit GreenTech in Amsterdam, one of the world’s leading horticultural trade fairs. There, they will be introduced to the latest developments in the sector. Three promising start-ups will also be presenting their innovative solutions in the fields of organic crop protection, the CO₂ transition and AI-driven matchmaking in the international horticultural sector.
