The first citrus exports to the United States

Citrus of Uruguay take for the first time the direction the United States.
The Urugay has sent the first cargo of 90,000 pounds of oranges to Philadelphia (USA) . This is the first export to the United States since the approval of July for Uruguayan citrus.
The first export left Montevideo and will reach Philadelphia on November 15. This opening of the American market will enable Uruguay to export for about 20 million dollars per year.
The Urugay estimates 16 000 hectares of citrus and exports about 150,000 tons of fruits, 75% from which to the European Union and between 8% and 10% to Russia.
